glass, composites, and honeycomb materials, ceramics, glass wafers and other
advanced materials); portable UHP abrasive fluidjet
systems for emergency rescue operations.

Experimental
and applied fluid mechanics (laboratory and field work): Multiphase flows of abrasive-waterjets,
steady/unsteady aerodynamics, vortex phenomena, naval hydrodynamics, turbulent
transport processes, stratified flows, wind waves, Naval hydrodynamics, air
pollution meteorology, wind shear measurements, wind energy siting,
wind-turbine wake characterization, qualitative and
quantitative visualization of various flow phenomena.

Instrumentation: Dual-disc
anemometer for measuring water-droplet and abrasive speeds in
abrasive-waterjets; PC-based, real-time data acquisition and analysis; remote SURFace Windshear
Alert System (SURFWAS) for improving safety of aircraft landing and take
off; thermal analysis microscope (TAM) for Infrared detection of surface and
subsurface flaws; fiber-optic sensors for measuring pressure, temperature and
aerodynamic force/moment in hostile environment with strong RF and EM
radiations; laser Doppler velocimeters for oceanic
and laboratory deployments; laser gauges for measuring displacement on water
and compliant surfaces and of internal wave in stratified fluid; laser
fluorescence probes for measuring high-frequency concentration fluctuations.
